𝐃𝐨𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐒𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝: 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡

Here is my double page spread research  for my magazine. I have decided to separate my research and development from my front cover research to help me separate them and to be more organised.

After conducting this double page spread research, I gained tons of knowledge about the elements that go into making a double page spread. Among these is the realisation of how crucial display and layout are to making a positive first impression on readers. For instance, an audience will find the page boring to read if it has too many words and not enough visuals. Based on this evaluation, I would thus ensure that my double page spread gives a good impression to the readers by arranging the text neatly and balance between image, decoration and the article inside. Another thing I learned is the importance of drop caps, which capitalise the first letter of a word. The significance of drop caps, which capitalize the first letter of a word, is something else I learnt. I would like to add a drop cap to my article as well because they act as a visual indication to indicate the start of a new part or section, which makes the content more visually appealing and interesting for readers. Personally, I find it enjoyable to analyse the double-page spreads in both magazines. Making a table has made it easier for me to arrange the topics I wanted to analyze and to quickly review them again.

Here is my first double page spread from AURA special edition magazine called A-ONE 

Before Reading
Magazine	A-ONE
Issue	Date of Issue: March 2013 Issue No. 6
Publisher	Aura Magazine
Genre	Fashion (The genre of this magazine fit into a sub-genre of Eastern beauty & health)
Images	- There are 2 images in the double spread, one for each page. - The images are people dressing up with Japanese attire. One image shows a women holding an umbrella facing away the camera. The other image shows 2 women smiling while holding an item.
Layout	- The title and sub-heading of the page tend to have a bold and colourful font, while the content inside have smaller letter size.  - It does have a drop cap on the first paragraph of the article, the letter 'P' is capitalised and bolded with the colour blue.  - The page numbers are located on the bottom of the page (left and right). The size of the text are quite small hence it doesn't makes it stand out so that readers won't be focusing on that part.
First impressions	My first impression when I come across this double page spread is that this page seems to contain a lot of information as there are many writings inside. The yellow colour that is used as the border makes the whole page stand out due to its bright colour which may attract readers, however I think that the colour doesn't suit with the whole page as it doesn't match with the images that are included. Moreover, all the primary colours (red, blue and yellow) are used as their main double page spread colour, and I feel that it doesn't really suit that much. Although the use of colour and layout are not that attractive, I do like that the sub-headings are bolded and in colour so that readers can easily differentiate different main points or sections of the whole article.
After Reading
Heading	Latihan Menguatkan Kulit ala Jepang  (Translation: Japanese Skin Strengthening Exercises)
Subheading	Perempuan Jepang terkenal dengan kulit wajah yang halus, cerah, dan tanpa kerut. Salah satu rahasia perawatan yang dilakukan adalah melatih kulit megandalkan kekuatannya sendiri, disebut dengan puasa perawatan kulit.  (Translation: Japanese women are famous for their smooth, bright and wrinkle-free facial skin. One of the secrets of the treatment is to train the skin to rely on its own strength, which is called skin fasting.)
Author	The double page spread seems to not have a byline as well as the photographer mentioned.
Article	The article talks about how to strengthen the skin through skin care fasting with the aim of strengthening the skin's natural protective layer which is weakened by excessive cleansing. The whole articles addresses the step-by-step process of skin care fasting as well as the do's and dont's while implementing this method.
Mode of address	The article has direct mode of address from the use of words such as'you' or 'your', as if the article speaks directly towards the audience. Furthermore, the writing style of this article is more into formal and  serious but still relaxed.
Pull Quote	It doesn't have a pull quote.
Audience	The targeted audience of this magazine is primarily aimed for womens' during their middle/adult age, as the title says about strengthening skin.
Impression	After reading the double page spread of this magazine, I think that this article is quite interesting to read, however it might be a bit boring as I read through due to the large amount of texts that filled the whole page.
Inspiration	I would like to incorporate some the features that are included in this double page spread to my own magazine later, which is the use of bullet points and different colours for the small headings so that it is easier for the audience to read and differentiate the sub-topics that are discussed.

Here is my second double page spread from Vogue for October 2023

Genre	Fashion (This genre of this magazine fit into a sub-genre of beauty, culture, living and runaway)
Images	- There are 3 images in the double spread, one huge image that takes up the left page more, and two smaller images on the right side. - The images are womens' who appears to wear a veil, looking directly to the camera. The middle image shows a group of womens' posing with the peace sign towards the camera.
Layout	- The whole article seems to have the same type of font, even so the sizes of the title, sub-heading and content are different. - It does have a drop cap on the first paragraph of the article, and the size is relatively big. The letter 'W' is capitalised.  - The page numbers are located on the bottom of the page (left and right). The size of the text are quite small hence it doesn't makes it stand out so that readers won't be focusing on that part.
First impressions	My first impression when I first saw this page is that it looks like it contains a lot of texts, with tends to have limited creative design as there is no colours used for the text other than black. However though, the layout looks pleasing and neat to look at as it is in justify. When I see the images inserted to the article, it may suggest that this article will be talking about women empowerment hence explaining the minimalistic design due to the seriousness of the topic.
After Reading

Subheading	As the conflict in SUDAN rages on, cases of sexual VIOLENCE are reaching new heights. SULAIMA ISHAQ ELKHALIFA tells AMEL MUKHTAR about her battle to end this war on WOMEN
Author	The double page spread seems to not have a byline as well as the photographer mentioned.
Article	After reading, the article talks about the war that happened in Sudan. Sulaima can't help but hope for the best, but as a human right defender especially when she's the general director of Sudan's Unit for Combating Violence Against Women, she knows a return to normality will not be simple, so she tries to take an action.
Mode of address	This article has indirect mode of address, where it talks about an event in third person.
Pull Quote	It does have a pull quote, which says, "If I RESIGN, they will say I left because I FEAR them. I'm STAYING and siding with WOMEN and GIRLS of SUDAN"  This pull quote is used to draw reader's attention to the text of the article from which it is quoted and to emphasize the important or main opinion of the main subject.
Audience	The audience for this magazine is targeted for older women as the topic won't be comprehensible for younger audience.
Impression	I think that the article is quite a heavy topic for me to read as I don't usually read these kind of topics mainly politics, hence it appears to be quite boring for me to read especially when the whole article is almost covered with text in the same font and colour.
Inspiration	I would like to incorporate some the features that are included in this double page spread to my own magazine later, which is the use of justify margin and to follow the shape of the images to make my article look neat and clean.
